The Friendship Factor

Friendship

©Linda K. McFarland

I have been stitchin' a friendship this year.

Thoughts of my friend fly through my mind, burying happy memories deep within my heart, just as my quiltin' needles fly through my quilts and bury the thread in the batting.  The joy-filled smiles we give each other are more valuable than the material gifts that we give.  Our compatible thoughts are equivalent to the quilting design being completely complementary to the pieced pattern of a quilt!  Our shared prayers are more productive than the sharing of our fabrics.  The points of our friendship are perfectly matched from our mutual respect.  We help each other rip out the crooked seams in our lives.  The everyday patchwork of our colourful lives has been pieced together in perfect harmony with the music of our laughter and some tears (mostly of joy).  Our love cannot be measured by a ruler.  Templates for the pieces of our friendship are not squared, but rather are flexible!  Our deep understanding gives us a seam allowance for each other, meaning that we give each other "space."  The raw edges have been neatly bound by our common spiritual faith.  Without my friend, I would feel as empty as a quilt without its batting, as if part of my self were missing.  Indeed, she is like another self to me.

My friend has put a constant smile across my heart.  So, this page is in celebration of the smiles of friendship!

"My best friend . . . believes in me, and that makes me want to believe in myself. "    Brandi Muradian

"Some friendships are as comforting and comfortable as a well-worn pair of shoes.  Others are full of excitement and adventure.  The best ones are laced with laughter and softened with tears and strengthened with a spiritual bond."   Emilie Barnes/Donna Otto

"Sometimes...you find a special friend;  someone who changes your life by being a part of it.  Someone who makes you laugh until you can't stop.  If you find such a friend, you feel happy and complete."      Laurieann Kelly

"Soul friendships are the safety net of the heart."  Susan Jeffers

"Go often to the house of a friend, for  weeds choke the unused path."   Ralph Waldo Emerson

"A true friend is the gift of God, and He only Who made hearts can unite them."     Robert South

"True friendship is that unexplained heart connection between two people who enrich each other's life.  True friends are sensitive to each other's own perceived flaws, insecurities, vanities, peculiarities, and opinions, but neither puts demands on the other to change.  They just want the best for each other....always."      Donna Fargo

"We can just feel the strength of our friendship in our hearts."  Rachyl Taylor

"Friendship is a spiritual thing.  It is independent of matter or space or time.  That which I love in my friend is not that which I see.  What influences me in my friend is...his spirit."   John Drummond

"Nothing opens the heart like a true friend."    Francis Bacon

"If I could give you one gift, my friend, I'd give you the gift to see yourself as others see you, so you could see how special you really are."                            anonymous from YOU'RE NEVER OUT OF STYLE

". . . you don't hold things against me.  You help me prop up my courage if it starts to fade . . . You support me in my attempts to do what is right.  You multiply my smiles."        Emilia Larson

"When I don't know what to do in a situation, I ask your opinion and weigh it heavily with mine...When I want the truth about something, I call you because you are so honest...It is so essential to have you in my life."      Susan Polis Schutz

"Friendship is not formed by what we give or receive, but by sharing from the heart."         Rosemary Nelson

"I love how we laugh and have fun together.  We never run out of things to talk about.  I confide in you with complete faith and trust.  Your friendship has brought a new sense of peace into my life...[and] a newfound sense of confidence and self-worth...You've given me a piece of your heart."  Debbie Burton-Peddle

"You can't hang friendship on a wall, but does that make it any less real?"       Chris Pirillo
